Minister Loncar visits victim of shooting in front of Serbian National Assembly: His life is still in danger
Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar was in the Emergency Center today to visit a man was shot in front of the Serbian National Assembly, simply because, the minister said, he is fighting for Serbia without blockades, and added that this man is not yet out of danger because he is about to undergo a complex surgery.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday referred to the incident in Pionrski Park as an act of terrorism, stating in an unscheduled press conference later that he believes the attack was politically motivated, and that the attacker, now aged 70, had spent 16 years working for the state security agency.
Loncar said that today brought "an extremely, extremely difficult shock, for all of us," and added_
"I just spoke with the man who was shot, who was attempted to be set on fire. He is conscious, but I can't say that his life is out of danger. The bullet went through his right groin, injured a large blood vessel, and a large hematoma is forming. He is going into surgery, that bullet did not exit, it has to be removed, so an extremely complex operation awaits him."
The minister pointed out that the Serbian public should know that the victim said he had never seen the man who shot him.
"He neither knows him, nor any of the people who were there. Today we have the fact that a man came to the people who express their opinion and who are advocating that Serbia not be blocked, that Serbia works, that Serbia functions, that Serbia moves forward. And then someone else (the attacker) came who does not agree with that opinion, who was obviously instructed," said Loncar.
The minister added that it was a stroke of luck that the victim was hit only once because the assailant fired several shots, and once he was not satisfied with how many people he had shot, he started a fire, wanting to set them on fire.
"Do we realize the time we live in, what we've come to, that just because we think differently one needs to kill the people for having a different stance and expressing it calmly, at a place registered (with the police) and where everything is done in line with the law," said Loncar, referring to the opponents of the anti-government protests and blockades who gather in Pionirski Park, near the Serbian National Assembly.
The minister added that this is the last warning call to all citizens of Serbia and that something of the kind should never happen again.
