Citizens in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica and Leposavic today welcomed their new mayors Milan Radojevic and Zoran Todic with Serbian flags, after the constitutive sessions of the assemblies of those municipalities were held when the new mayors from the Serb List took office.

The assemblies in nine Serb-majority municipalities were constituted today in Kosovo and Metohija including in the four municipalities in the north, new mayors from the Serb List took over from Albanian mayors who were elected in April 2023 when only 3.5 percent of registered voters turned out, in elections held after representatives of the Serbs left the provisional institutions due to Pristina's unilateral and escalating moves and non-compliance with agreements.

The new mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica is Milan Radojevic, the mayor of Zvecan is Dragisa Milovic, the mayor of Leposavic is Zoran Todic, and the mayor of Zubin Potok is Milos Perovic.

While Albanian mayors were at the head of the local self-governments in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian institutions were driven out from their premises, street names were changed, signs with names of settlements printed in Cyrillic were removed and those with names in Albanian first, and then under them in Serbian transliterated to Latin - often with typos.

In the local elections held on October 12, the Serb List won in all 10 municipalities with a Serb majority, both it terms of mayors and the number of councilors in local assemblies.

Municipal assemblies in Gracanica, Strpcce, Novi Brdo, Partes and Ranilug were also constituted today, while the constitutive session of the Municipality of Klokot, where the Serb List won in the second round, will be scheduled later.
