Western Balkan states must ensure youth cooperation

The governments of Western Balkan states must institutionally support youth cooperation and exchange programmes through establishing a regional office or a youth union, a conference organised by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights was told on Tuesday

The idea was launched by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in August last year at a conference of Western Balkan states, after which the Ministry of Youth and Sport started implementing it.

"What we want is the Western Balkans as a region of prosperity and peace where young people will create together", Assistant Minister of Sport Snezana Klasnja said, adding that a mechanism is needed for association and cooperation among young people, along with institutional support.

The initiative to establish a Western Balkan youth union or a youth office could be unveiled in August at a conference in Vienna, which should be accepted by all countries in the region, it was said at the conference.

The conference was attended by Nadezda Dramicanin from the EU Delegation to Serbia, Frank Morawietz from the French-German Youth Office and Marija Bulat, an official of Serbia's umbrella youth organisation.
