Seehofer: Vucic's proposal on migrants acceptable in practice

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic's proposal to provide false asylum seekers with smaller financial support is more applicable in practice than some of the proposals that have emerged in Germany in the ongoing debate on migrants, Bavarian Minister-President Horst Seehofer said on Monday

I accepted that we in Germany, as well as in Bavaria, must do our homework, and we will discuss this in the Bavarian government - at this time, a debate on the issue of migrants is under way in Germany, and many proposals are being circulated that are not useful for solving the problem, Seehofer underscored in a statement to reporters after a meeting with Vucic.

The Serbian prime minister urged that Germany be made less attractive to refugees by giving false asylum seekers less financial support.

During the meeting with Vucic, Seehofer gave credit for the reform efforts undertaken by the Serbian government.

However, the meeting mostly focused on the issue of migrants, and it was agreed that contacts be continued, he said.

Besides Minister for European Affairs and International Relations Beate Merk, who will visit Serbia in early September, I accepted an invitation to pay a two-day visit to Serbia as early as this year because there are exceptional joint interests, not only in economic cooperation, but also regarding the issue of migrants, Seehofer said.
