Statehood Day  was established to commemorate the day when the Assembly in Orasac in 1804 started the first Serbian uprising and the day in Kragujevac in 1835 when the first Constitution of the Principality Serbia was issued - Sretenjski constitution.

In addition to the Statehood Day, it is also the Day on the constitutionality of Serbia, as well as the Remembrance Day of the beginning of the Serbian revolution.

Serbian Statehood Day was celebrated until the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and it was discontinued after that, but celebrated again in Serbia since 2002.
