Novi Sad residents are proud of Strand, while Belgraders are proud of Ada Ciganlija, but across Serbia there are beautiful beaches and bathing spots on lakes and rivers, that have not yet been polluted.

These are merely some of the beaches that are favorites in those parts of the country where they are located, but are also known far and wide, and so people come there from faraway places to get refreshment and rest.

PESKARA IN ZRENJANIN

Where sand used to be extracted in Zrenjanin there is clear water now, and - a sand beach. Three lakes called Peskara are a popular refuge for Zrenjanin residents escaping hot weather, and are located on the outskirts of the town. The water is clear, and the beach prepared for swimmers.

During heat waves the river bank is filled with swimmers and looks like a truly exotic destination. The sunsets at this beach are a real attraction.

The planned preparation of the beach started in 2007, while it took its current shape after wide-scale works to clean the bottom of the lake, arrange the bank, pour in sand, and build accompanying facilities.

The bathing spot is managed by the Tourist Center of the City of Zrenjanin, and features a lifeguard service during the summer.

THE LAKE IN BACKA TOPOLA

The arranged beach on a lake in Backa Topola is attractive to visitors of this small town and its surroundings. The beach is not big, but it's filled with people who are happy to refresh themselves in this lake on the plain.

The lake is called Zobnatica Lake, and the water, according to some sources, is of the highest quality in all of Vojvodina, when it comes to stagnant waters.

When we speak about Backa, you'd think that the best known lake, Lake Palic, has no competition, but unfortunately it has been polluted for a number of years and engaging in summer adventures there can be unhealthy. For that reason, Backa Topola and its surroundings can rely only on what they have.

TIKVARA AND THE CITY BEACH IN BACKA PALANKA

Backa Palanka, a small town on the Danube, is well know for its beaches, Tikvara and the city beach being among the best known.

The beauty of the Danube and sandy beaches are more attractive to many people than the city pool.

A view of the Ilok Fortress, natural shade and the environment contribute to the popularity of the Danube beaches.

BELA CRKVA LAKES

The seven lakes of Bela Crkva are a symbol of this charming little town in southern Banat.

Gravel digging started here in 1904, and the extraction for industrial purposes left behind artificial lakes that now represent one of the municipality's main attractions.

The best-known of these lakes include: Glavno, Vracevgajsko, Saransko, and Sljunkara.

The water is a transparent shade of green, and there are also sandy beaches. Glavno (Main) Lake features a beach that is made of paved concrete in one part, while other lakes have completely natural beaches.

It's also possible to swim in the rivers Nera and Karas, located close to Bela Crkva.

TARZAN BEACH

One beach on the Sava River in Progar near Surcin has neither gravel nor sand. All it has is a platform and a rope.

You enter the water the express way - by swinging from the rope and jumping into the Sava.

That's why it's called the Tarzan Beach - and although this type of fun is not for everyone, it has its fans.

SILVER LAKE

A former meander of the Danube near Veliko Gradiste has been cut off to become one of the best known and best kept Serbian lakes.

The lake's depth is up to 8 meters, and the water is clear - there is no industrial pollution, and the water's also purified by the sand dunes that form there.

The beach is covered in gravel, and you can also enjoy yourself right next to it on the grass, in the shade.

SUMARICE

Lake Sumarice was created with the goal of enhancing the eponymous memorial park in Kragujevac.

However, local residents gladly visit this lake because it has a nicely kept beach and is located near the city, but also because it offers a natural and pleasant environment.

There is a running track along the entire lake, next to the beach, and there are rafts for swimmers, a cafe that is open during the season, while motor and paddle boats are available for added recreation.

LAKE BOR

The artificial lake, whose purpose is to accumulate water needed for the mining basin Bor, fits in with the naturally rocky environment so many people consider it to be of Serbia's natural beauties.

The water temperature is 26 degrees centigrade, ideal for bathing, while the fish stock is being regularly replenished.

The lake's banks have four variously sized beaches, surrounded by pleasant woodland.

PERUCAC, BATHING ON THE DRINA

Few places along the Drina River offer nicely arranged beaches. However, this rapid river is attracting swimmers from Serbia and the Serb Republic, and there is one place where you can enjoy yourself almost the same way as at the seaside.

In Perucac, on the bank of a lake that is created by the Drina accumulation, there's a raft beach that can be moved toward greater water depths, while the swimming season on the Drina lasts only two months - July and August.

There's no sand, but there's everything else that makes a beach safe and fun: lifeguards, showers, slides, pedal boats...

ZLATAR LAKE

Zlatar Lake or Kokin Brod is a part of the Uvac River, which in this part of its accumulation creates a beautiful lake, third in size in Serbia.

As is the case in Perucac, there is a beach on rafts, while swimming in it, along with the fresh mountain air of Zlatar, is a real pleasure.
