Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Monday received Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko in Belgrade, who announced a visit by a senior Russian official for next month.

Vucic expressed satisfaction that his very intense dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin continued into early 2020.

In conversation with the ambassador, the president said that his participation in the opening ceremony for the TurkStream pipeline in Istanbul gave him the opportunity to discuss with the Russian president various global developments that have an impact on the world economy and energy security, but that he is convinced that Serbia's economy and households will have a secure gas supply.

According to the statement, Vucic said he is particularly honored to participate in the grand celebration of the 75th anniversary on May 9, Victory Day in Moscow this year, and reiterated the joint commitment of the brotherly peoples of Serbia and Russia to their glorious liberty-loving tradition.

In addition, in three days, the presidents of both countries will jointly participate in the 5th World Holocaust Forum at the Yad Vashem Memorial Center in Israel.

President Vucic expressed confidence that he would also have fruitful cooperation with the new Russian prime minister, Mikhail Mishustin, based on the understanding and trust he had with the previous prime minister, Medvedev.

Intense dialogue between Serbia and Russia

Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko announced a visit by a senior Russian officia for next month, and this visit will continue the intense political dialogue between Serbia and Russia, which characterized the previous year, the statement said.

The two interlocutors agreed that such high-level dialogue was an expression of a mutual desire for  comprehensive progress in bilateral cooperation.

President Vucic and Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko stated that implementation of joint infrastructure and energy projects is being carried out well and at the same time discussed concrete proposals for closer cooperation in cultural and humanitarian fields, as well as at the level of civil society.

In addition to bilateral relations, the two interlocutors also discussed regional situation, including in Kosovo and Metohija and in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
