The National Convention on the European Union has called on Belgrade and Pristina to establish direct and effective cooperation in combating the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement from the Convention said that the world's health systems are increasingly overburdened by the number of infected patients and that the pandemic has shown that the spread of the disease goes beyond borders, national and ethnic origin or religious affiliation of patients, so that it can only be overcome through joint action, cooperation and solidarity.

The Chapter 35 Working Group of the National Convention on the EU calls for establishment of communication channels between crisis HQs set up to suppress coronavirus in Serbia and Kosovo, which would allow for exchange of information about the scale of the pandemic on a daily basis.

"We urge competent authorities to establish procedures for cooperation between medical institutions and medical teams, as well as procedures for mutual assistance in the hospital treatment of patients infected with coronavirus," the statement said.

The National Convention notes that it is necessary to regulate the regime of movement through integrated administrative crossings during the pandemic so as to allow for unimpeded movement of ambulances and medical teams.

As stressed, it is also necessary to allow the passage of consumer goods, especially food, medicines, medical supplies, disinfectants and other necessities for a normal life.

"Finally, the Chapter 35 Working Group wants to emphasize that a joint approach and active cooperation in combating the coronavirus pandemic in Serbia and Kosovo can significantly contribute to the reconciliation of the two societies, and this opportunity should certainly not be missed," the statement said.
