EU and Western Balkans oriented towards each other: Vucic speaks with European Council president

Vucic thanked for EU's significant assistance to Serbian residents, while Michel stressed the solidarity Serbia showed by sending aid to Italian citizens

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke today (on the phone), ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit this afternoon, with European Council President Charles Michel, and the two agreed that during the coronavirus pandemic, the EU and the Western Balkans were oriented towards each other, reports Tanjug.

Vucic expressed his gratitude for EU's significant assistance to Serbian residents, while Michel stressed the solidarity Serbia showed by sending aid to Italian citizens by assisting those in the Western Balkans region.

The European official said that the European Union is committed to the European perspective of the Western Balkans and further strengthening and intensifying its support to political, economic and social reforms in the region.

The European Union has allocated 3.3 billion euros to help the region, bearing in mind the consequences of Covid-19 on the Western Balkan economies, the president of the European Council said.

The two interlocutors also discussed the next steps on Serbia's European path.

President Vucic said that Serbia is continuing the reform process with the aim of joining the European Union.

President Vucic and President Michel also discussed the regional situation, stressing Serbia's commitment to peace and cooperation policy in the Western Balkans.
