The continuation of the dialogue with Belgrade is supported by 70 percent of citizens of Kosovo and Metohija, while about 90 percent of Albanians and 43 percent of Serbs are dissatisfied with the current status quo, according to the latest survey of the Research Institute for European and Development Issues.

The results of the survey were presented by Anthony Heath, who said that both Serbs and Albanians are committed to reaching an agreement and not to continuing the "status quo," reports the Pristina portal Ekonomija Online.

"Both communities fully or to some extent agree to start a dialogue. The majority of the population said that every possible effort should be made to reach a final agreement," said Heath and added that there are disagreements between the two communities regarding recognition by Serbia. Albanians do not agree with the increased competencies for municipalities in the north, while Serbs do not agree with a recognition of Kosovo.

"Regarding recognition by Serbia, we find that there is disagreement between the two communities - 84% of Serbs do not agree with recognition of Kosovo," said Heath.

The survey also showed that Serbs believe that borders should be corrected, while Albanians do not support that.

"There is support for the government to reach a final agreement, but there is great disagreement about the correction of borders, there is a particularly a difference between the communities," he said.

According to the same survey, only 37 percent of Kosovo's citizens supported unification of Kosovo with Albania if Belgrade recognized Kosovo's independence.
