Black weekend on Serbian roads: 14 people die in 72 hours, including children and youths

According to the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as many as 14 people died on the roads in Serbia in just the last three days. Among the main causes of traffic accidents are speeding and not keeping the distance with the vehicle in front, although, especially on weekends, there are also frequent accidents caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol, Blic writes.

In the night between Saturday and Sunday young men Aleksandar Z. (21) from Pejkovac and Danilo C. from Samarinovac died instantly in a traffic accident that happened on the road Prokuplje-Zitoradja near the village of Lukomir. The driver of the car, Aleksandar J. (26) succumbed to his injuries in the Clinical Center in Nis, where the doctors were fighting for his life after the accident.

The young men were returning that evening from a mutual friend's engagement party. They were traveling in an Opel which crossed to the opposite side of the road and collided directly with a truck. In this accident, Aleksa C. (19), who was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident, and Andjela Markovic (22), who was sitting behind him, were slightly injured.

4-year-old girl M.K. from Mataruska Banja near Kraljevo died on Sunday at around 4.10 pm in a traffic accident in the area of ​​the village of Vukasinovac, on the Aleksinac-Razanj road. The tragedy occurred on the section of the road leading from Vukasinovac to Deligrad after a Citroen car with Nis license plates, driven by a 26-year-old driver from Razanj, hit the child who had ran onto the road.

"The girl was with her mother and uncle in another car, which stopped by the side of the road for the child to defecate. When they were returning from to field to their car the girl ran onto the road and was hit by the Citroen moving from the direction of Aleksinac towards Deligrad. The girl died on the spot from her injuries," a source told Blic.

A young man, Nemanja P. (24), was killed while two people were injured in a serious traffic accident that happened between Saturday and Sunday on the main Novi Pazar-Golija road, in the village of Prcenova. According to unofficial information, Nemanja P. was a passenger in a Volkswagen Tuareg SUV driven by L.K., and there was a young woman with them who they wanted to take home.

Two accidents in one hour

In two separate accidents, two people died on Sunday, September 13 in the Toplica District, within just over one hour. Both victims were on tractors. The first person was killed in the village of Stava near Kursumlija, and the second on a mountain road above Blace.

Friends killed on motorcycle

A.G. (17) from Kraljevo and P.N. (16) from the village of Gracac near Vrnjacka Banja were killed on Friday night on a country road in the village of Gracac, when they landed in a canal next to the road and hit the gate of a yard. A.G. died on the way to the hospital, while P. N. passed away two hours later. They were moving at a speed of about 130 kilometers per hour, and at the moment of the crash, the young man's helmet fell apart.

On the same day, Friday, September 11, a taxi driver was killed in a traffic accident in Kragujevac, when a bus suddenly crossed into the left lane and mowed him down while he was standing next to his car. The taxi driver's body ended up under the wheels.

One accident after another

Over the past week, accidents have been happening one after another. I.I. (42) from the vicinity of Aleksinac lost his life in a traffic accident on the road leading from Novo Selo to the village of Lalinac near Nis. The tragedy occurred when I.I., who was driving a Fiat Punto, crossed to the left side of the road and collided directly with a Mercedes van that was coming in his direction.

Motorcyclist Ivan S. (25) from Sefkerin was killed near the Pupin Bridge in Belgrade on Thursday last week, when he drove off the road and hit a traffic light. In the afternoon of the same day, a pileup of seven cars and trucks occurred on the road Vreoci-Arandjelovac near Lazarevac, in which nine people were injured, one of them seriously.

A serious traffic accident near the Dobanovci Loop took place on September 9, when a pregnant woman, Smiljana Trivic (35) from Sremska Mitrovica and her colleague Predrag Gemovic (41) died, while Alen L. and Kristijan S. were injured as their car crashed into a parked truck, a colleague of the truck driver said. The woman and the three men were in a Peugeot which hit the truck from behind while it was in the stop lane in the direction of Belgrade.
