Drecun: Everyone wants Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to continue, but their goals are not the same

When Albanians speak about the continuation of those talks, they want to impose the thesis of mutual recognition, of course we have nothing to talk about there - said Drecun

Ahead of snap parliamentary elections in Kosovo and Metohija, the president of the Serbian Assembly's Committee on Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun, pointed out that it is necessary for the Serb people to vote for the Serb List in order to maintain political unity and constant communication and coordination with Belgrade. He stressed that the congratulatory message of Joseph Biden, sent to President Aleksandar Vucic on the occasion of Serbia's Statehood Day, was inappropriate in the part that refers to (Serbia) recognizing Kosovo, and represents a form of pressure.

There are five days left until snap parliamentary elections called by Pristina. The Serb List is campaigning to win all 10 seats in the Assembly of so-called Kosovo, which are reserved for the Serb community.

The president of the Assembly Committee on Kosovo and Metohija stressed that it is necessary for the Serb people to vote for the Serb List in order to maintain political unity and constant communication and coordination with Belgrade.

Without that, he pointed out, there can be no survival or future of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija.

According to him, any waste of votes or Pristina's attempt to win over individuals leads to the weakening of the political influence of the Serb people.

"Only through the Serb List, Belgrade can help and we must not allow a rift to be created through individuals of Serb ethnicity," Drecun told RTS this morning.

He said that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina will continue, that everyone wants that to happen, but that our goals are not the same.

You should ask Lajcak why he's not reacting

Drecun said that the message by US President Joseph Biden, sent to Serbian President of Aleksandar Vucic on the occasion of Serbia's Statehood Day, was inappropriate in the part that refers to (Serbia) recognizing Kosovo.

"They sent us a nice greeting card and when someone sends you a greeting card for Statehood Day and demands that you recognize a part of your own territory, it is certainly a kind of provocation and it is inappropriate," said Drecun.

Everyone who counts on some kind of pressure has it figured out wrong, the head of the Assembly Committee on Kosovo and Metohija pointed out.

"You should ask (EU envoy) Lajcak why he's not reacting to this story. Things can't be done like that. Where's the solution, where's the compromise there. Serbia is being asked to punch itself. and must react much more sharply," said Drecun.

A part of Biden's message, Drecun stressed, represents very strong pressure.

"We still don't know what kind of pressure Biden is prepared for, and that is why it's necessary to try to build good relations with the United States through intensive diplomacy," said Drecun.
