Pristina says Constitution referendum can't be held in Kosovo: "Kurti violates human rights"

"By deciding to ban the referendum, Albin Kurti is trying to deepen the crisis, although UN Resolution 1244 guarantees the right to vote, which is also in the mandate of the OSCE mission in Kosovo and Metohija. That is why we addressed Brussels and the Quint countries, which are seriously considering this issue," said the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic

At the end of the year, there is no progress in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Apart from the fact that the talks between the two sides have stalled, tensions are further increased by Pristina's decision not to allow the holding of the referendum on changing the Serbian Constitution to take place in Kosovo and Metohija, and there is also the sixth ban on entry to Kosovo that Pristina imposed against the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic.

In the past two decades, all election cycles organized by Belgrade have been conducted in Kosovo with the assistance of the OSCE. Belgrade has now been informed by the Pristina administration that the referendum on changing the Constitution will not be possible in Kosovo.

"By deciding to ban the referendum, Albin Kurti is trying to deepen the crisis, although UN Resolution 1244 guarantees the right to vote, which is also in the mandate of the OSCE mission in Kosovo and Metohija. That is why we addressed Brussels and the Quint countries, which are seriously considering this issue, and I expect a positive response, because Albin Kurti's arbitrariness is a direct violation of basic human rights," Petar Petkovic told RTS this morning.

For the sixth time this year, Petkovic was not allowed to enter Kosovo, and he was not even informed about that before he came to the administrative crossing.

"There is no explanation, I did not receive any email with a negative answer, like before. Until the moment I came to Jarinje, I did not know that my visit was banned," said Petkovic.

The planned visit to the Devic Monastery was primarily about supporting and helping our people, because, as Petkovic says, we can now allocate more money that we can invest in roads, hospitals and the like.

The Brussels administration has been practically on winter vacation since Monday, so there will probably be no more meetings between the delegations of Belgrade and Pristina before the end of the year, neither at the highest nor at the technical level.

"There is no rest for us and we are fighting for our people. Belgrade is ready and committed to participate in the dialogue and we are always ready to go to Brussels. The Pristina side refuses to talk and does not want to discuss all key issues. When we talk about the past year, we had two serious crises, the incursion of Rosu unit in the north of Kosovo and Metohija and the wounding of Srecko Sofronijevic. We are fighting frantically to preserve peace and stability. Surrender is not an option, instead we insist and fight for agreements and for what has already been signed," the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, told RTS.
