The number of people waiting in queues in front of the Healthcare Center in Palilula, Belgrade, has increased compared to last week, and the head of the general medicine service in that institution, Snezana Despotovic-Kusljevic, says that the number of new Covid cases is expected to increase during the summer.

Despotovic-Kusljevic told Tanjug that last week 20 people were waiting in line to be examined, and that the number increased to 50 over the weekend.

"The number of positive cases also increased from 10 to yesterday's 33 and it can be said that this is a slight increase, because in relation to the entire population, it is about 18 percent more," said Despotovic-Kusljevic.

She told Tanjug that patients come to see the doctor with standard symptoms, such as cough, sore throat, loss of the sense of taste and smell, fatigue, but that what is good is that they do not have pneumonia and complications that lead to hospitalization.

"Our elderly fellow citizens should be protected because, in addition to chronic patients, they belong to the category where even a milder form Covid can harm and create complications," said Despotovic-Kusljevic.

She stressed that it is expected that the number of new cases will increase in the summer period, because people socialize and travel more.

She added that people of all ages are coming to this healthcare center, from the oldest citizens to children, and that nine children were examined yestrerday.

"I appeal on people to continue to wear masks, keep distance even in the open, and when you enter closed spaces keep distance, sit in gardens of cafes and restaurants, and get vaccinated," stated Despotovic-Kusljevic.
