In 2002, 2,034,851 people lived in Vojvodina, while two decades later the number of people in the northern province decreased by 291,000. The decrease in the population numbers in Vojvodina is recorded mostly in the period from 2019 to the 2022 census, when it decreased by 108,000, writes mitrovica.info.

The estimated number of inhabitants in the Republic of Serbia in 2022 was 6,664,449 (estimates are based on the results of the Census of Population carried out in 2022 and the results of the annual statistics of natural movement and internal migration of the population). Observed by gender, 51.4% are women (3,423,627) and 48.6% are men (3,240,822).

According to population estimates by type of settlement, urban population dominates in the Republic of Serbia (62.0%). Urban population is demographically younger than the population of other settlements. The average age of the urban population is lower than the average age of the population in other types of settlements, by 2.2 years.

Different age structures of the population by type of settlement are conditioned by different fertility rates, but above all by differences in the direction and volume of migration movements.

Observed at the territorial level, non-urban population dominates in only eight areas (Macva, Rasina, Branicevo, Srems, Kolubara, Jablanica, Pcinj and Pomoravlje districts).

The process of demographic aging of the population is manifested by the low participation of young people and the high and continuously growing share of the elderly in the total population. According to data for the Republic of Serbia, in 2022, the share of persons aged 65 and over was 22.0%, while those under 15 ,ade up 14.4%.

The data at the disposal of the Statistical Office of Serbia does not include the area of Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
