Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today, referring to a protest announced for June 28 (Vidovdan) in Belgrade, that the state will intervene only if it is forced to so, and that efforts will be made to ensure that no one gets hurt.

Vucic added that June 28 will come and go, and that "the state will win."

"If we have to, of course we will intervene, but I hope they won't force us to do that. In the meantime, we will turn to work. I will now have a conversation with the students at the International Student Forum 'Freedom and Sovereignty of Peoples in the 21st Century', then I will go to Cacak and Pozega to tour the last sections of the highway that should be opened soon," Vucic said, adding:

"And these are extremely, extremely important things for me."

The president made the comments for Nis TV, when asked whether the state would "do everything in its power to prevent something (bad) from happening on Vidovdan, bearing in mind the blockaders' announcements."

Vucic said that people must see that the country is making progress.

"People increasingly understand what things were like in the previous period, but what is also important for me is the principle of taking responsibility," he said, and added that what has happened in Nis - when people who think differently (than protesters) were beaten, chased and thrown eggs at - must never repeat.
