Budapest-Belgrade high-speed railway: Passenger transport will possibly be launched as early as this winter

The technical handover of the Hungarian part of the Budapest-Belgrade high-speed railway could take place already this fall, while passenger traffic could also start during the winter, said Hungary's Minister of Construction and Transport Janos Lazar.
He told RTV Panon that Hungarian State Railways plans to run three pairs of trains a day between Budapest and Belgrade - three in each direction.
"We will provide a high quality service, with high speeds and fast connection between the two capitals. The railway is of great importance for the economy, because a large part of the goods entering Europe will be transported to Western Europe via this railway," Lazar said in Palic, where he attended a celebration organized by the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians.
Lazar pointed out that the Budapest-Belgrade high-speed railway is a symbol and a sign of "the goal that Serbia, with the help and unreserved support of Hungary, becomes a member of the European Union, that Serbs, the Serbian economy and Serbian commodity exchange enter the EU via (Hungary)."
