Supreme Court in Pristina rejects Self Determination's appeal against certification of Serb List

The Supreme Court in Pristina has rejected an appeal filed by two members of the central election commission from the Self Determination party against the positive decision of the electoral panel for appeals and petitions to certify the Serb List party for the local elections in Kosovo and Metohija, that will be held on October 12.
According to the decision of the court, Sami Kurteshi and Alban Krasniqi had no legitimacy to file an appeal, because they are not direct parties in the decision of the electoral panel, reports Pristina-based Koha.
The judicial panel stated that, in addition to legal entities, only the electoral commission itself has the right to file an appeal to the Supreme Court, as defined by the law on general elections.
On August 26, the Self Determination members filed the appeal, in a bid to prevent the Serb List from participating in the October 12 local elections.
On August 24, the commission's electoral appeals panel overturned a previous decision of the commission rejecting to certify the Serb List party because of "an assessment that they did not meet the legal criteria for participation in the elections."
In their appeal against this decision, representatives of the Serb List pointed out that the move was illegal and discriminatory and that on August 20 the office for registration, confirmation and financial control of political entities gave a recommendation to the commission to confirm the candidates of that party.
Earlier as well, before the elections for the Assembly of provisional institutions held on February 9, the Self Determination tried to prevent the certification of the Serb List, so its application to participate in that ballot was certified only after a ruling of the Supreme Court in Pristina.
