Serbian PM Djuro Macut welcomed today in front of the Palace of Serbia, in a ceremony featuring top state honors, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who is on an official visit to Serbia along with a delegation.

A red carpet welcome for the guests from Somalia included the participation of the Serbian Army's Guards and the sounding of the two countries' anthems.

After this, the Serbian PM and Hamza Abdi Barre held a separate meeting, followed a plenary meeting between the delegations of the Government of Serbia and the Government of Somalia.

The Somali delegation arrived in Belgrade yesterday, and was welcomed at the Nikola Tesla Airport by Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic.

Serbia nurtures traditionally good relations and decades-long friendship with Somalia, which date back to the time of close cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement.

The two countries cooperate successfully in the field of defense and law enforcement, and are interested in improving cooperation in the field of economy, agriculture, construction and education.

Somalia initially recognized Kosovo, but then withdrew that recognition, meaning that Somalia and Serbia now respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
