Serb List: All politically appointed heads of municipal departments dismissed in north of Kosovo and Metohija

The mayors of the municipalities of northern Kosovska Mitrovica Milan Radojevic, Zvecan - Dragisa Milovic, Zubin Potok - Milos Perovic and Leposavic - Zoran Todic have assumed their duties in these municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija and made a decision to dismiss all previously politically appointed directors of municipal departments.

The Serb List (SL) announced that the appointment of new directors is expected in the coming days.

The Serb List won in all 10 municipalities with a Serb majority in Kosovo and Metohija during recent local elections, while the constitutive sessions of the assemblies of nine municipalities were held on December 5.

The constitutive session of the Municipality of Klokot, where the Serb List candidate for mayor won in the second round, will be held at a later date.

The Serb List now has its mayors in all 10 Serb municipalities as well as the majority of councilors in each.

The new mayors in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, upon entering the municipal buildings, said they encountered the premises in a catastrophic state  because items of things of exceptional value have disappeared, while Orthodox Christian icons have been desecrated.

Albanian mayors were elected in these municipalities in April 2023 when only 3.5 percent of registered voters turned out, during elections held after representatives of the Serbs left the provisional institutions due to Pristina's unilateral and escalating moves and non-compliance with agreements.

While Albanian mayors were at the head of the local self-governments in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian institutions were driven out from their premises, street names were changed, signs with names of settlements printed in Cyrillic were removed and replaced with names in Albanian first, and then under them in Serbian transliterated to Latin - often with typos.
