Milos Perovic - the new mayor of Zubin Potok, a Serb-majority municipality in northern Kosovo and Metohija - has published photos showing the extent of the damage done in and around the municipal building during the term of the previous, Albanian mayor.

The photos clearly show debris in the courtyard, as well as in the interior of the building, which was found in extremely poor condition.

Not long after, on Monday, Perovic made an official announcement regarding these unfortunate events.

"After I officially started work as mayor of the Zubin Potok municipality, I toured all the offices and found damage and chaos, destroyed inventory, demolished rooms, broken doors in almost every office, especially in those where members of the special (Kosovo) police units were staying. In one office, there is evidence of fire, as if someone had a fire going there.

It will take a lot of time, resources and energy to bring the municipal building to a decent state again.

In addition, it needs to be known that even though they are under obligation to leave the municipal premises, the Kosovo police, without any legal basis, are still in the annex of our building, and their vehicles are parked on the plateau in front of the House of Culture, which is normally used by our children to play."

Two days ago the new mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, said that the new, Serb mayors in four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija who took over from Albanian mayors found the municipal premises in catastrophic condition, as items of exceptional value had disappeared, while Orthodox Christian icons kept there were desecrated.
