"Future will not be simple " President Vucic speaks from Davos, comments on Board of Peace
President Aleksandar Vucic today addressed citizens of Serbia from Davos, on the fourth day of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Vucic first apologized for having to delay the start of his address, then addded that he had an important meeting with Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, primarily about the NIS (Petroleum Industry of Serbia).
"Today I had an important meeting with Orban, we talked about Petropleum Industry of Serbia, I believe that we will have another by the end of January, as well as that the final contract between the Russians and the Hungarians will be completed by the end of March, and that in the meantime we will receive the operating license (for NIS)," said Vucic.
Another topic during the conversation with Orban were Hungarian investments, but also the relationship between Serbia and Hungary and how to jointly take a position on key geostrategic issues in the world today.
According to Vucic, he and Orban also spoke about all the events taking place in Davos, and touched on the hot topic - Greenland.
"It's to be expected that strong European unity will be demonstrated on the issue of Greenland. I think this is just a small interlude, because I have also spoken on the margins with other people both from the US and Europe who are very powerful and who know a lot, and this rupture is expected to continue. So, the fact that we are happy today that there are no sanctions yet - take it easy with that happiness," he said.
The president also revealed that he has spoken with his Uzbek counterpart.
"The man who welcomed us in a magnificent way. We discussed the consequences of Donald Trump's statements, our positions are close. I spoke with Borjana Kriska and invited her, I believe she will visit Serbia soon. We also talked about joint projects," he said.
Vucic added that he gave important interviews to some the Western media, and mentioned that he was looking forward to the upcoming events in Davos.
"We have IGWEL, which is important, a huge number of important people. I will possibly speak, but above of all I want to listen a lot," he said and added that he thinks the future will not be simple, but that Serbia has been presented in a worthy way.
Asked about the Board of Peace, he said the following:
"I'm not quite sure yet, if I was, I would tell you. Some say it's a body parallel to the UN, China stated that it received an invitation. We will also see what the tasks of that board are, who will be sending the troops, it's not a problem to make a donation to restore something, but sending troops is another matter. We will see in which direction this will develop."
When asked by journalists about the mention of Jasenovac (Croatian WW2 death camp), the president of Serbia said that nothing has been confirmed.
"I don't have that confirmation, but if it's really true, it's a shame on all of them. Jasenovac is not something that's been made up. I don't understand how someone believes they will revise history. Shame on them if it's true," he said, then added, "For me, Serbia is paradise."
