Serbia will not be banning Russian media because the West demands that, and is proud of the freedom of the press in the country, Serbian Minister of Information and Telecommunications Boris Bratina said on Thursday.

"The West, and especially the European Union, has already shut down media outlets in its own territory. We see that the situation in the media throughout Europe is very bad. We in Serbia are proud to have access to content from all over the world," Bratina told the Russian news agency RIA.

He added that President Aleksandar Vucic told the truth when he said that the West demanded that Serbia ban Russian media, but stressed that Serbia would not allow it.

"In the UK you can go to jail for perhaps an inappropriate but otherwise ordinary tweet, and so on. Personally, I would like to see African and Latin American television channels (broadcast in Serbia)," said Bratina.
