Analyst Srdjan Barac said today that the conflict between the US and Iran is extremely close to turning into a regional and global one, and pointed out that the situation is very alarming considering that Iran is carrying out attacks throughout the Persian Gulf, including on military targets, during which parts of missiles fall on populated areas, "which creates panic and chaos and has an effect similar to a terrorist attack."

"This is the idea of changing relations inside Iran and, above all, the perception of power and fear that Iran has been sowing for some time. On the other hand, the result is a blow to the world economy and the world economy and population are afraid as to whether the familiar way of life will change. Everyone is worried about our way of life, whether it will survive after this conflict, how much prices will rise and what it will mean for our everyday lives," he told Tanjug.

Barac also said that whether this conflict can lead to changes inside Iran is a "very complicated question" - because although the US thinks that there will be a regime change, like in Serbia after the (NATO) bombing in 1999, the question remains whether such attacks resulting in chaos, the killing of civilians including children, can serve as fuel for someone to want a regime change, or if it only strengthen the existing authorities in Iran.

Asked how divided Europe is regarding this conflict and if European countries will be "punished" unless they support the US military operation, Barac stressed that the US is certainly looking for support and blind loyalty regarding the attack on Iran.

"We will see which countries will respond to that. Europe is trying to find a new place of its own, where it is not so much an appendage of the US.

Where it would be more like a part of that fleet of vehicles, rather than just a trailer," he said.

Commenting on the impact of the mass withdrawal of diplomats and the closing of consulates and embassies of the Middle East countries. which are at the center of the conflict, on the Trump administration, Barac said that mid-term elections in the US will be taking place soon, and that will show what the voters really think about Trump's interventionist foreign policy, noting that opinion polls show "the situation is not the best."

"This issue is not only a foreign policy one, very soon it will also become an internal political issue for Americans. I think the whole world is anxious to see which course the American society will choose," he added.

Speaking about the real goals of the US behind the attack on Iran, Barac stated that although Trump announced a term in which he would fight to restore the position of the US, which is that of the "global policeman" - it is questionable how much economic power that country has to carry it all out and to what degree the world, as "a very agitated place", can tolerate a reckless actor.

Asked "what the new Iranian authorities that would suit the US and Israel should be like", Barac said that "the new ideal Iranian government would be one similar to the new government in Venezuela, which would follow the direction it is given without question, and which would not be a threat to Israel, that entered this conflict because of fear for its existence."

Barac also thinks that Serbia "should not choose sides because this is not our war", and added that Serbia should look for ways to minimize economic consequences and effects of the conflict between the US and Iran.
