High-speed passenger train service from Belgrade to Budapest to launch at end of March
It is expected that passenger traffic will be established on the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway by the end of March, and here is what passport control will look like.
One way ticket on a high speed train traveling from Belgrade to Budapest will cost 25 euros, while passport and customs checks will be accelerated because all the top safety and security standards have been met, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic has told RTS.
"For trains that will travel directly between Belgrade and Budapest, the plan is for the Serbian side to carry out border and customs control at the Belgrade Center Prokop station, while that the Hungarian side will do it at Kelebija (border crossing), i.e. they will perform passport and customs control during the trip," she said.
Sofronijevic added that this will speed up the journey and added that seven years ago, when passenger traffic stopped on that line, it took more than eight hours to get from the Serbian to the Hungarian capital, while now it will take about three hours on the direct lines.
She also stated that on the section of the railway through Serbia, the speed will be up to 200 kilometers per hour, and 160 kilometers per hour through Hungary.
The minister pointed out that eight trains will travel on the route, five Serbian Soko trains and three Hungarian Taurus trains.
Two direct lines are planned, without stops, that is, with only a technical stop at Kelebija station, which will last 21 minutes.
