A Telegraf.rs reporter was at the scene of a crime in New Belgrade! Jurija Gagarina Street was under police siege today as officers blocked off the neighborhood looking for a getaway car!

As we learned at the scene, an 80-year-old man was killed with a blunt object right in front of his garage in Jurija Gagarina Street.

According to information obtained by the Telegraf.rs reporer, the crime took place in the middle of the day, and the police were alerted by one of the residents in the nearby buildings who witnessed the horrific scene.

Key details about the attack

The victim was allegedly hit with a blunt object in front of a garage. The ambulance crew could only pronounce him dead.

One of the neighbors saw the killer running into a car and fleeing the crime scene at high speed.

The police already have the make and the color of the car the attacker used to escape. All available units, including the Intervention Unit, are combing though New Belgrade and blocking key roads.

"From the window, the neighbor saw the man getting into the car and disappearing around the corner. He immediately called the police, who arrived in just a few minutes," one of the distressed passers-by told Telegraf.rs.

Siege of Jurija Gagarina

A large number of MUP members were on the ground. Forensic experts set up tents and were examining shell casings found on the concrete. The inspectors' job is made easier by the fact that there is a description of the vehicle, so they are currently checking footage from security cameras covering the exits leading to the Ada Bridge and the highway.

Access is not allowed to the garages, as police tape is stretched several tens of meters in length.

The investigation is ongoing, and the identity of the attacker is still being determined.
