Serbian Army starts delivering water to villages affected by severe drought

In order to alleviate the consequences of a long lasting drought that has caused water shortages, members of the Serbian Army, at the request of local self-governments, are currently engaged in providing water to households in the territories of Valjevo and Sjenica.

The Serbian Army is using water tankers from which wells and reservoirs that citizens use for households and for livestock are being refilled in the Sjenica villages of Dolinje, Dunisice, Trebina and Ursula, as well as in the village of Babina Luka near Valjevo, the Ministry of Defense has announced.

Members of the Serbian Army are also periodically deployed in the villages of Donji Starac and Novo Selo in the municipality of Bujanovac, in the village of Veliki Siljegovac near Krusevac, and in Ram near Veliko Gradiste.

Along with providing water, members of the Serbian Army are also using fire engines, engineering machines and off-road vehicles to participate in extinguishing the wildfire in Deliblato Sands.

Military medical teams are also active and, in support of the Ministry of Health, are currently carrying out "Military doctor in the village" campaing in places where access to the healthcare system is difficult for citizens, a press release stated.

It is added that by realizing these tasks, the Serbian Army shows that it is always at the service of the citizens, not only when it comes to the defense of the country, and that it remains ready to, in line with available capacities, deploy its forces and resources wherever and whenever that is most needed.
