According to statistics, Kraljevo has the most pronounced negative migration balance in Serbia, and the highest number of emigrants in relation to immigrants. In previous years, only some family members in search of a better job and life were leaving, while in recent years a noticeable exodus of entire families, and even their firms.

Advertisements for the sale of "well-developed boutiques or cafés" are not rare in this city on the Ibar. Businesses that are outside the central pedestrian zone are mostly empty. Many owners are renting out premises, and in turn seeking only the regular payment of utilities.

Due to a weakened economy in Kraljevo, traders are forced to move their jobs, and usually opt for the northern parts of Serbia. There are examples where entire families move to Belgrade or Novi Sad. One of them is Nebojsa Savic, who started his antique shop, but also moved his family, wife and son to Novi Sad.

- I left so my family can have a future, because we did not have that in Kraljevo. With my shop in Kraljevo I could not survive even half a month. I contemplated between Belgrade and Novi Sad and decided two years ago to come to Novi Sad. Now, from the sales in my antique shop, I pay rent for my apartment and shop, which are cheaper than in Kraljevo and can pay an entire month.

- It's hard to save, but we live decently and we do not intend on returning to Kraljevo - says Savic for "24 hours".

In the shopping center at the Old children's dispensary, which was once the meeting place of many from Kraljevo, we met two owners of boutiques who are planning to go abroad.

- I have been trying to rent out the premises for four months, and nothing. Here is 30 square meters with a toilet and a small warehouse. Just to cover the costs, I'd agree to 80 euros a month, but in vain - says Ivan Jovanovic, one of the owners of the premises in Kraljevo on whose shop windows instead of standing goods is a notice "available for rent".

From the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Kraljevo, they say that the environment in Kraljevo is not favorable and in it lies the cause of population migration.

- In addition to the general requirements on the business of small shops and businesses affected by the obligations they have towards the local government. There are about 15 different fees paid to municipalities, such as charges for the development of building land. The latest data show that there are examples of companies moving their jobs, mostly to Belgrade, because it is evident that there have more space for their business.

I think that local governments can find a certain compromise that could affect the survival of small private businesses. Thus, each month, when costs to the municipalities and the state are put on paper, nothing remains of the money turnover, and hence the negative net migration - said the Chamber.
