Vučić said that the government would send an explanation to Nikolić "within the next two days," who will decide on a date.

- Serbia must be united. I want to set clear goals for the citizens, our duty is to show what our road to the future will be in the next four years -  said Vučić.

According to him, the goal to achieve "European standards within four years," adding there would be "no compromise when it comes to the future of Serbia."

The elections will be a referendum on whether Serbia will be a modern European country in 2020 and whether we want the future or the past, the government's website reported.

He noted that the 22 months, during which he held the office of the prime minister, have not been easy, but that Serbia has been stabilized and saved from bankruptcy and that his government, despite the fact that it was facing bankruptcy, managed to cope with the catastrophic floods in May 2014 and the recent migrant crisis and it managed to achieve a lot because is was united.

- The government was also faced with instability in the region, but nevertheless managed not only to halve the deficit, but also to create chances for a better future, to pull the country out of recession and to secure growth in the next three to four years - Vučić said, adding that - Serbia’s vital interests have been defended everywhere in the world.

- Thanks to our policy (UN) Security Council did not declare us a genocidal people, and we managed to win in the imposed customs war with Croatia, and to preserve the national interest on the occasion of Kosovo’s application for UNESCO membership - he said.

He added that during the mandate of this government only two countries recognized Kosovo - Antigua and Barbuda and the Solomon Islands - unlike some great patriots during whose time 80 or 90 countries did that.

According to Vučić, the main objectives in the coming period will be to improve education, and medical facilities and health care.

As for the migrant crisis, he said:

- When it comes to the whole territory of Serbia, including Kosovo, I am quite certain that there will be no big problems for the Republic of Serbia.

He at the same time rejected the possibility of the country becoming "a collection center" for migrants from the Middle East.
