Belgrade-Pancevo railway by November 2016

Serbian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic and Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin visited the works on the Belgrade-Pancevo railway and announced that the section would be completed before the deadline of November 1, 2016

Mihajlovic said that Serbia had started utilizing intensively the USD 800 million Russian loan, intended for modernization of the Serbian railways and financing the overhaul of a 15 km section from Belgrade to Pancevo.

“This is the first time in the last 20 years that Serbia invests in railway infrastructure modernization,” Mihajlovic told reporters in Pancevo.

The works on the existing track and the construction of the second track from Belgrade to Pancevo will be completed before the deadline, as the Russian Railways are efficiently executing the project.

The works cost USD 91 million. A total of USD 78 million has been drawn from the Russian loan, and about USD 13 million, or 15 percent of the loan, has been provided by Serbia as participant in the works.

The Russian loan is also used to fund an overhaul of 112 km of Corridor 10 railway, an overhaul of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway, an overhaul of a 200km railway track through western Serbia, and a delivery of 27 Russian diesel trains.
