Telegraf journalist donated her hair to children diagnosed with cancer! Here is how you can make them happy too! (FOTO)

I did not know how to react or what to think after I get my hair cut but the first thing that crossed my mind was the face of a young boy struggling with that terrible illness. I pictured him smiling while they were bringing him the wig made from my hair, and the hair of all those people who participated in this humanitarian action. The feeling was more than wonderful

I have always loved my hair. It is one of the things I love the most. Long and soft, I have kept it as my trademark for all my life. I have  carefully chosen my hairdressers, taking my time to find the right one which sometimes took couple of months. I cut my hair no  more than 2 to 3 centimeters. Longer than that was out of the question.

Then something happened that completely changed my mind.

Have you heard about 'A kilometer of hair'? I have found out about this humanitarian action just a few days ago. The goal is that everyone who is willing to donate their hair, cut it and send it to be transformed into a wig for children diagnosed with cancer.

And that is how it all began.

It is that feeling when you just know that you have to do something. For others as well for yourself. You just 'click' and you think:

- That's it!

It is impossible to explain this urge if you haven't felt it yourself.

I forgot how much my hair meant to me and my only thought was the one that at least one child will smile for just one haircut I did. I immediately contacted one of the organizers, Marko Mak Pantelic, and scheduled the haircut.

I haven't had any second thoughts.

However, some of my friends have advised me against it.

- You have lovely hair, why cut it? Don't, it will never grow back...

None of this prevented me because I have made a firm decision to donate my hair to the children conditioned with cancer. It was the least I could do.

The haircut was scheduled to be at the 'Mister X' salon where Miroslav Lukovic, together with Marko,  greeted me with a smile. They were both very polite.

When I sat in this huge comfortable chair i felt slightly nervous. Hairdresser took my hair and made a ponytail. I closed my eyes. One 'snap' cut through the silence and he was holding my ponytail in his hand.

No more hair.

The feeling was...wonderful.

The happiness I felt can hardly be described. To understand it, you have to do something like it. I am sure that one of the greatest successes achievable is the one to help someone in the need of helping, any way you can.

This gesture didn't mean that much to me but it could mean the world to some child.

While I sat there and thought about it, Miroslav Lukovic started shaping my hair and and I must admit he made the real masterpiece out of it! When I saw myself in the mirror I was completely stunned by my new look!

Not only did I feel good but I also looked good.

I have used the opportunity to talk to Marko, one of the organizers. He then explained to me that the idea of 'Kilometer of hair' action was born out of the purest intention of helping children diagnosed with cancer.

- This idea developed gradually. Initially, after couple of movie and TV projects, back in the beginning of 2014, I had had the wish of shortening my hair because I saw it as an obstacle in my work. I started thinking about those people who might use that 'renewable resource', the one I didn't need any longer. He, of course, immediately though of children struggling with cancer and other diseases that cause hair loss - Marko explained and continued:

- Unfortunately, all of us have someone near us struggling with the similar diseases, or at least we know of someone that does. Affected children were, naturally, the first to think of. Then my colleague, theater producer, Tamara Kojic inspired us to believe that one humanitarian action such as 'Kilometer of hair' may succeed. That put the two (ordinary people) into the long exploring adventure.

I proudly looked in the mirror once again, my hair neatly laid on the table. I left the salon happy. I was proud of myself and the others alike.

Do the same! Apply and visit one of the salons across the country. You won't regret it, on the contrary!

In order to get the list of the salons that participate in this action you need to find 'Kilometer of hair' group on facebook and send them a message that you wish to participate.
