Kusturica is planning to withdraw from the film business and try in a very specific public engagement. As he confided to close friends, the figure of the President of Serbia would be the right intention.

- Kusturica has been preoccupied lately with the idea that he could jump in the political scene, and the presidential elections are the perfect range for that. However, he intends to talk to the prime minister Aleksandar Vucic about that. If he receives the support he might move forward from the idea. Without Vucic's support, i doubt he would be ready to go into this kind of adventure - said the source close to the director.

According to the estimates, Emir Kusturica would as a anti globalist and nationally oriented culture worked had good chances on the presidential elections. 

Political analyst Dragomir Andjelkovic believes that the famous director would be a trump card, because voters would not be perceive him as someone's puppet.

- Of all i heard that are mentioned, Kusturica is by far the most serious, with the best chances for success. He is a brand for himself, a name with certain weight and he could gather both nationally and civil defined voters. He would fit excellently into the European trend of strengthening authentic national forces and therefore i think that most of the west public, mostly Europe , would accept him - said Andjelkovic.

Kusturica has showed so far open closeness to Democratic Party of Serbia, more precisely the former leader of the party Vojislav Kostunica.
