IF TRUMP AND PUTIN REACH AGREEMENT, SERBIA WILL HAVE LOTS OF BENEFITS: Will the presidents of USA and Russia return Kosovo to us? (PHOTO)

The election of Republican Donald Trump for the 45th President of the United States of America does not exclude the possibility of significant changes in foreign policy towards Serbia and other Balkan countries

If it was up to the people from Serbia, the election night in America would not be so uncertain. Donald Trump would be easily elected for the 45th President of the United States. Serbian wishes came true - Republican candidate triumphed. However, now the question arises with the expectations of our citizens will come true. Is there room to the expectations that Putin and Trump, if they agree, can return Kosovo to Serbia. And all expectations concerning us are not so small. How real is for a change of foreign policy of USA to Serbia to occur and improvement of our country's position in the world, is just a question we asked to our interlocutors, well informed in the situation in Washington.

When he started the race for the presidential nomination of the Republican Party, not everybody believed that Trump can become a presidential candidate. In the past 19 months of the campaign, he was outspoken, left no one indifferent. He succeeded in that, as many among the political elites thought it was impossible, he was elected President of the most powerful country in the world.

Not even the most knowledgeable analysts know what will the foreign policy of the new US administration be . Most believe that it will primarily deal with arranging internal affairs. Therefore, it is an even greater enigma, how to deal with the region, which is the focus of US foreign policy for a long time.

The Telegraf interlocutors say that US foreign policy is very difficult to change. So now it remains to be seen whether Donald Trump will really make a turnaround in relations between the US and Russia, as announced in the campaign.

This would naturally have an impact on the position of Serbia, because for a long time we suffer pressure from the EU to harmonize foreign policy with Brussels and to introduce sanctions against Russia.

- If the Trump eased the relations with Putin, it would probably mean less pressure on Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia, which is not in our national interest - says Milan Krstic from the Center for social dialogue and regional initiatives.

Krstic believes that Trump will deal less with Bosnia and Herzegovina, unlike Hillary Clinton, for which this country is a question of political succession. This would also reduce the pressure on the Serbs there.

Professor of Political Sciences Slavisa Orlovic told for Telegraf that the US has a clearly defined policy towards Serbia, which goes upward.

- Even though there are issues on which we disagree, it is expected that the relationships will continued to progress - said Orlovic.

Dragan Sormaz agrees with Orlovic, deputy of Serbian Progressive Party. He says that we must talk about the questions that we disagree on.

- The USA have a view that they finished the question of this region and it presents no safety threat. America tries for Serbia to become the part of EU, which means a lot to our country. If we continue to make progress towards EU, our relationships will develop, make progress, the number of investments will grow - said Sormaz.

Vladimir Marinkovic highlights that investments are the key of everything, said vice president of National Assembly of Serbia.

- Although the United States are occupied the other Global problems, such as Syria, Ukraine, relations with Russia, it is important to focus part of attention on Serbia, due to investments, security and development of democracy - said Marinkovic.

Marinkovic's colleague, MP and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Human and Minority Rights, Meho Omerovic says that we must be aware that we are a small country, which is the focus of US foreign policy.

- I do not expect a big change when it comes to the relationship between the USA and Serbia. It is a serious country, that his views that do not change so easily - notes Omerovic.

This view is shared by Aleksandra Joksimovic, president of the Center for Foreign Policy. She says Western Balkans and Serbia are not the focus of US policy, which have left the leading role in the region to the EU.

- It is expected that so called middle staff in Washington administration will deal with West Balkans - said Joksimovic and added that she does not expect drastic changes in American political course.

Muamer Zukorlic does not agree with Omer and Joksimovic, although he does not expect major turnarounds of the State Department politics. He says that Balkan is very important to all world powers.

- When greatest world powers do not deal with us then they do it a little less, and if someone has to deal with us, let it be the greatest ones. Balkan by nature will never be a space that world powers will not deal with - said Zukorlic.

According to him, the choice of Donald Trump is a big risk, because no one with certainty can say what is his political platform.

As much as the opinions of local politicians and analysts on the future policy of the new presidential administration in Washington are opposed, the direct representative has imposed a clear position. This is the beginning of a new era, said for our portal, Kyle Scott, the US ambassador in Belgrade.

- Relations between the US and Serbia continue to go upwards - says Scott.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic calms the situation. He says that Serbia's job is to "look at their own elections" and that the "excitement" he sees in Serbia and in Serbian Progressive party points out to at least three things:

First, that people felt pressure for decades and now it seems that the pressure is lowered, said Vucic.

Secondly, he said, unfortunately, it points to our failures in the past and that we always searched someone to blame, to avoid responsibility, and third reason is pure "Serbian" because some think that it is a "small vengeance, we waited for someone's political ending".

- I am concerned in of something different and i would like to think "Distrust is the mother of safety" and to build the best relationship with USA - said Vucic.
