The Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ) issued a warning over the weekend about high temperatures that will hit Serbia today. However, a new warning about storms and thunderstorms has been issued this morning, concerning tomorrow.

As announced, today and tomorrow will be very warm with highest temperatures in most places between 35 and 38 degrees, except in the north of Serbia, where tomorrow will be slightly more pleasant with the highest daily temperature around 32 degrees.

"Clouds with rain, showers, thunderstorms and a drop in temperatures will arrive tomorrow (August 13) at the end of the day, while during the night, affecting first the north and west, and on Wednesday (August 14) during the day, other parts of Serbia. Heavy showers (20 to 30 liters per square meter in a short period of time) are expected locally, along with strong wind in the zone of these showers," the warning states.

RECORD WARMEST DAY OF THE YEAR?

The hottest August day in Belgrade in the last 130 years was August 5, 2017 when 40 degrees were measured between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The previous warmest was August 5, 1928, with 39 degrees.

"When it comes to the coming days, cities in the south will be more exposed to the heat wave, especially Nis, Cuprija and Krusevac. The temperature of over 42 degrees has already been measured in Nis this year," meteorologist Vladimir Djurdjevic from the Meteorological Institute told RTS.

In our country, heat waves usually come from Africa. In Europe for the second year in a row, we have summers that break all records. This year, all records were broken in France.

"It is difficult to predict where the hottest wave will be, but that doesn't mean this trend will continue in the future. All records have mostly been broken in the last 10 years, and in April this year alone we had temperature deviations of 5-6 degrees," says Djurdjevic.

On Thursday, clouds are expected to clear. The maximum temperature will be from 22 to 28 degrees. After a clear and fresh morning - cold and foggy in valleys - Friday will be sunny and moderately warm, with showers and thunderstorms only in the south. Maximum temperatures will range from 25 to 29 degrees.
