EP adopts report on Serbia: Normalization of Belgrade-Pristina relations, respect for rights are key

The European Parliament adopted a report about Serbia on Thursday, stating that normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina and respect for fundamental rights in the country are key for determining the pace of accession negotiations.

MEPs welcomed the progress made by Serbia in developing a functioning market economy and encouraged the Serbian government to continue implementing structural reforms in this area, according to a statement posted on EP's website.

MEPs again pointed out to the importance of harmonization with EU's foreign and security policy bearing in mind that, as they claim, the rate of Serbia's alignment is currently the lowest in the region, reports Tanjug.

MEPs expressed concern over the efficiency of the functioning of the Serbian Assembly.

The claim that there is no parliamentary opposition in the parliament and that its legitimacy is disputed by opposition parties.

The report was adopted with 538 votes in favor and 69 against, while 79 MEPs abstained.

They also adopted reports on so-called Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia.
