Minister Djuric: Serbia will not be lectured on democracy by those whose aim to weaken it

Foreign Minister Marko Djuric has reacted to accusations against Serbia on issues related to the media, by stating that the country will not be lectured on democracy "by those who recycle rumors and corporate rivalries as ‘truth'."
"Our press is often, with some exceptions, almost always very critical, diverse, and vocal - anyone who spends a single day in Belgrade can see the broad spectrum of critical media operating without restriction," Djuric pointed out in a post on X.
However, he added, what is not free is "the coordinated attempt to weaponize media narratives against Serbia, to undermine its institutions, and to discredit its leadership for political ends."
"These smear campaigns, often dressed up as ‘concern for democracy,’ are, in fact, efforts to weaken Serbia's stability, and simply a power grab," Djuric continued.
Serbia, he stressed, will continue to protect freedom of expression and the safety of journalists, while rejecting manipulation and falsehoods.
"Serbia remains committed to its European path, on the basis of fairness, respect, and truth - not on the basis of orchestrated misinformation," Djuric concluded.
2-day visit to Japan
Starting on Friday, the head of Serbian diplomacy will be on a two-day working visit to Japan, where he will meet with the country's foreign minister, Takeshi Iwaya.
According to the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric will also speak with other officials and representatives of the business community during his visit to Japan.
The minister will visit the Serbian pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka.
