Minister Loncar in Brussels: Serbia is joining EU's largest health project, citizens to benefit
Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar and EU Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare Oliver Varhelyi signed today in Brussels a document by which Serbia joined the EU4HEALTH program and, as a candidate country, formally became a full participant in the largest healthcare program in the history of the European Union, which is worth more than 5 billion euros.
On that occasion, Loncar said that participation in the EU4HEALTH program is not only about financial support, but a clear confirmation of Serbia's commitment to be developing its healthcare system in line with EU standards.
"This program allows us not only financial and technical support, but also inclusion in the European health community, where the citizens of Serbia should have an equal place," Loncar said, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health.
He added that the goal that Serbia is striving towards is very clear, namely, a stronger, more modern and more efficient health system that will be fully aligned with the standards of the European Union, but at the same time adapted to the needs of our citizens.
Commissioner Varhelyi stressed that he was very pleased because of the signing of the agreement with Serbia.
"Together, we are focused on improving healthcare, both in the European Union and in the countries that are membership candidates. Together with Minister Loncar and Serbia, we will get the best out of this project," said Varhelyi.
