Garic: Serbia managed to ensure continued functioning of Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija
Journalist Milos Garic said today that Serbia, through active diplomatic activity, managed to reach an agreement regarding Pristina's law on foreigners and in this way ensure continued functioning of Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija in healthcare and education sectors, and pointed out that it is important that this solution was supported by the European Union.
Garic said that until now the activity of Serbian diplomacy has always encountered resistance from Pristina, but also from EU institutions.
"From our side, there is always normal conversation but we always encounter a wall, both from Pristina, but above all from European institutions. At this moment, I think that we should really stress that Serbia succeeded through active diplomatic activity in the previous period, both by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija and other segments of Serbian diplomacy and top state officials, to present something that is extremely important, which is the continuation of the work of Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, particularly in the field of healthcare and in the field of education," Garic told Prva TV.
He pointed out that healthcare and education are the two lifelines for the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija and that these two sectors are protected thanks to the agreement that has been reached.
"These are the two lifelines for the Serb people in the area of Kosovo and Metohija. The future of the Serb people depends on this and this is protected by this agreement that was reached and supported by the EU," said Garic.
He stressed that it is important that EU representatives did their part and managed to convince the provisional Pristina institutions and Albin Kurti to give up on the intention to continue the persecution of Serbs.
"We have a reason for some satisfaction, to say that finally from the EU, Mr. (Peter) Sorensen reacted in the right way. This is something we were not used to seeing in the previous period, but he did his part and convinced the provisional authorities in Pristina and Albin Kurti to abandon this intention that he had to brutally continue the persecution of Serbs," stated Garic.
According to him, this agreement made it possible for Serbs to obtain temporary residence permits for a period of one year and, based on that, to continue working in educational and healthcare institutions in the area of Kosovo and Metohija.
"It has been ensured that healthcare institutions can work, it is ensured that educational institutions can work, that the university in northern (Kosovska) Mitrovica works, that healthcare centers work, that hospitals work and that the people who work in those institutions have jobs, so that Serbs have all their basic needs met in the places where they live," explained Garic.
He added that the agreement became a message to Pristina and to the extreme Albanian political faction, that the policy they planned to implement would not pass and that the Serbs would resist.
"A message has been sent to Pristina and that extreme Albanian political faction that the policy they planned to put into practice will not pass, that the Serbs will resist all of this and that, despite all the sacrifices and suffering that the Serb people endure, the goal will still be achieved, that the Serbs will remain in that area, that the state of Serbia will maintain its presence in that part of its territory in those sectors that are most important and that we will continue to work ever more strongly in that direction," Garic concluded.
