33-YEAR-OLD MOWED DOWN BY AFGHANI WITH PROBATIONARY LICENSE DIES: Outcome of Belgrade accident
Motorcyclist Mikica B. (33), who was seriously injured yesterday in a traffic accident at the intersection of Ruzveltova and Kraljice Marije Streets in central Belgrade, died in the hospital two hours after he was transported there, Telegraf.rs has learned.
Even though the doctors made every effort to save the young man who was admitted to the hospital unconscious, he succumbed to his serious injuries.
The accident happened yesterday at around 17:00 hours when the driver of a Volkswagen Touran, a 19-year-old citizen of Afghanistan A.M.D., who had a probationary driver's license, was driving along Ruzveltova Street from the direction of Cvijiceva Street towards Kralja Aleksandra Boulevard.
When arriving at the intersection with Kraljice Marije Street, he ignored the traffic sign to move straight and instead turned left and crashed directly into a Honda motorcycle driven by the victim. Due to the force of the impact, the motorcyclist fell on the road.
A breathalyzer test revealed that the Afghani citizen was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.
By order of the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, a criminal complaint has been filed against the driver on suspicion that he committed serious crimes against public traffic safety.
