Izetbegovic said that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the right to the sea, he will address the European Commission

It is recalled in Izetbegovic's announcement that the "the authorities of the Republic of Croatia received a letter from the European Commission at the end of last year, in which they were explicitly warned that they must resolve the dispute with Bosnia and Herzegovina before the beginning of the construction of the Peljesac bridge"

Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic announced that, on the occasion of today's signing of the contract on the construction of the Peljesac bridge between "Croatian roads" and the Chinese consortium "China Road and Bridge Corporation", Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has the right to sea and that Sarajevo will inform the European Commission of Croatia's move .

Croats fined the fishermen from Slovenia: They sent a penalty of unbelievable 28,000 euros

- In 2007, the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency adopted a conclusion and called for Croatia to stop the construction of the Peljesac Bridge until the open issue regarding the identification of the maritime boundary line and Bosnia and Herzegovina's access to the open sea is solved, which is a right attributed to it by the United Nations Convention on the sea rights - says the statement from Izetbegovic's Cabinet.

Fena reports that the statement "emphasizes that the Republic of Croatia has been officially informed on several occasions about it, among other things, with a letter from the then Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nebojsa Radmanovic in 2009."

It is noted that "this attitude was confirmed last year by the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, asking the Council of Ministers of BiH to send the Republic of Croatia a note and request all bridge building activities to be suspended until a full mutual agreement is reached."

It is recalled in Izetbegovic's announcement that the "the authorities of the Republic of Croatia received a letter from the European Commission at the end of last year, in which they were explicitly warned that they must resolve the dispute with Bosnia and Herzegovina before the beginning of the construction of the Peljesac bridge".

- Despite all the warnings, the Republic of Croatia continued with the implementation of the controversial project by signing the bridge construction contract, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will notify the European Commission, which finances the construction of the bridge, and they will take other steps to protect its rights to which it belongs under the UN Convention on the law of the sea - concludes in a statement from the Izetbegovic's office.

The contract was signed on the construction of the Peljesac bridge in Dubrovnik today between "Croatian roads" and the Chinese consortium "China Road and Bridge Corporation" and contract for construction supervision with the community of bidders, which includes the IGH Institute, Center for Construction Organization and Invest Engineering.

HRT reported that Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said he expects the agreement to be executed within the deadline and that it will enable the rapid implementation of the project in the next three to four years.

- In this way we solve the strategic issue of the connection of this part of Croatia with the rest of the country, we receive a large investment project, we have a concrete visibility of our membership in the EU, and we open a long-term door of cooperation with China - Plenkovic said.

He added that the bridge is being built and with full respect for BiH.

- Thus, the height of 55 meters enables a waterway that allows the function of the port in Neum to be of the highest quality possible, allowing all the rights that BiH has - the Croatian Prime Minister said.

The President of the Croatian Roads Authority, Josip Skoric, said that the bridge is 2.440 meters long and that it is a unique steel and concrete construction that has to withstand unfavorable conditions.
