President Vucic addresses US sanctions against NIS and where things stand with Russians
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that the situation regarding the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) "is not easy" in view of the US sanctions against NIS, and that Russian representatives understood Belgrade's position, adding that he hopes "they would act in that direction."
At a joint press conference held in Belgrade with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Vucic said that Serbia is not talking with potential buyers, since it is not the owner of NIS, and in line with that noted that "we are not communists".
The president also mentioned the possibility of forming a joint working group with representatives of the European Union regarding the energy situation in Serbia.
Serbia must work to develop the energy sector, since data centers and the development of artificial intelligence will require large consumption of electricity in the future, said Vucic.
He stressed that those efforts in next 10 years will have to be greater than they had been in the previous 80 years.
Vucic also spoke about the importance of gas power plants for Serbia's energy security, especially in Pancevo and Novi Sad.
"Many problems are ahead of us, but we are doing our best and working on the European path," he said.
