An ostrich living in the village Mirilovci near the town of Paracin is 2.2 meters tall, 130 kg heavy, and he is constantly nervous because he has not had a mate in a year and a half.

He is better than any guard dog because no one dares to enter the yard of the family Mienkovic.

Ostrich farms were quite lucrative in Serbia during the 1990s, but now one can find these birds only in Vojvodina province.

South of Belgrade they are almost non-existent.

A perfect specimen of the biggest bird in the world, a male one called "Crni" is a ruler of the big yard of the Milojkovic family from Mirilovac, 6 km away from Paracin.

The yard is next to the road, with a fence around, and the people often bring their children so that they could see this exotic bird from Africa.

Residents say that they got used to the ostrich.

His owner Slavoljub works in Switzerland with his family, and the ostrich is the best guard he has ever had.

When he is close to the fence, no one dares to come close, except for the people who take care of the yard.

Oliver Milanovic, local resident who lives across the road takes care of the house and ostrich.

He said that the ostrich is calm when he is not nervous, but he is nervous 90% of the time!

- A couple of years ago, the boss bought 4 ostriches, one male and 3 female. Then, his dog slew two females in the box, and the ostrich killed the last one during mating. Now he lives without a companion and this makes him even more nervous. When I have to do something, I do it when he is not around. He is really powerful, as ostriches usually are. Crni is 2.2 meters tall, and he weighs about 130 kg. He is in full strength so the boss said that he has to being him two females - said Oliver.

- When he is hungry, he thumps with the beak on the wooden planks, and he gets the corn. I leave the corn and the feeder for him, but I do not dare to come close. He eats grass, and he does not drink much water.

Once, a tractor went into the yard, and the ostrich was so furious that he broke the headlights with his feet.

He has got strong claws on his legs, and he can kill with just one blow. His beak is also a lethal weapon because he can destroy tin with it.

- Once he broke the concrete fence of the nearby yard, and once the wire fence fell, so he started chasing the man who ran into our yard to save himself. Now he has a new fence and everything is fine. Nevertheless, he can be really aggressive - said Oliver's mother, Milomirka.

All the residents are proud of Crni, despite the fear.

Ostrich is not the biggest but also the fastest bird. He can run up to 70 km/h, and his step is up to 5 meters long.

Oliver used to collect the eggs. The heaviest one was 1.3 kg, which is more than 20 chicken eggs.

The ostrich egg has no cholesterol and it is a great aphrodisiac.

But they would not try the meat from these animals.

Even though Crni is not the "lamb", they all say they would like him to live a long life.

He will outlive many of them, because he is only 6.5 years old, and their life span goes up to 70 years.
