In Serbia will be prohibited the use of tanning beds for anyone below the age of 18 because of their carcinogenic effect.

Older than 18 years will be able to use tanning beds only if you sign a document which will be written notification of all risks to which are exposed. These innovations will be found in the first ordinance of beauty salons, which should come into force in June this year, writes "Blic".

Also, Serbia could completely prohibit the use of tanning beds from next year, according to the recommendations of the European Union.

Such strict rules for the use of tanning beds will be introduced due to an increasing number of people that are diagnosed with melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer. In Serbia annually is detected from 500 to 600 new cases of patients suffering from this disease.

According to the Institute for Public Health "Batut", they recorded an increase of sickness in young people who have up to 29 years, primarily in girls. The increase of getting sick in young women is associated with increased sun exposure, but also the use of tanning beds.

It is believed that the use of tanning is responsible for more than 450,000 cases of melanoma a year in the world, and the only one trip to the tanning bed increases the risk for this disease.

Dr Zoran Panajotovic, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief of the Department for Inspection Affairs, confirmed for "Blic" that the new regulations will be stricter conditions for the use of tanning beds, as well as inspections of the salons.

- It will be exactly prescribed exposure and determining the time spend, how much the body can receive radiation. We are in consultation with the associations of dermatologist who will give us a professional framework for the use of tanning beds. Furthermore, it would take into account the skin type. In this way we will make tanning beds more or less secure. Also, for the first time we will apply the penal provisions for both salons cosmetics, as well as for individuals who ignore the rules - says Panajotović.

In May will be carried out extensive campaign throughout the country, announces Dr. Zoran Panajotović. Inspectors will review all beauty salons that have tanning beds, bearing in mind the consequences that can occur in humans.

Bearing in mind that there are different views on the use of tanning beds and that some countries have already banned its use, the EU has made a recommendation to the solarium from 2017 are no longer used. And Serbia will be guided by those recommendations and, if the EU position on the matter is definite, we will decide accordingly - says Panajotović.

Dr Lidija Kandolf Sekulović from Dermatologist-Venereologist Association of Serbia, who is also secretary of the Committee for melanoma of Serbian Medical Society, says that last year launched an initiative to ban the use of tanning beds before age 18, which is already in force in almost all EU countries.

- In Australia, from January 2015 the law is already in place and complete ban on the use and sale of tanning beds for all persons. Advice that the use of tanning beds is useful because the organism will get vitamin D is refuted because it is known that for the optimal concentration it is enough to stay a few minutes out from spring to autumn - explains Dr. Kandolf Sekulović.

Asymmetry: When you divide mole in length, are both sides identical? If not, it is the asymmetry and should go for a medical examination.

Borders: A winding line edge or young mushroom or dandelion may also indicate a change. If there isn't  a round or oval shape, it should be checked.

Color: Are changes to the mole have more color? Pay attention to all shades of pink, dark brown, white or black on a changed mole.

Diameter: If the mole on the skin has a diameter greater than five to six millimeters, you should contact the specialist.
