It is historically known fact that the Montenegro Kingdom stood by Serbia on the beginning of the World War I. But what is little known are the two telegrams that king Nikola Petrovic and the heir to the throne Aleksandar Karadjordjevic exchanged the day before this world clash. Those telegrams reveal something more.

The two did everything they could to avoid the war, but when they understood that it is inevitable, Nikola I Petrovic called on 25th Jul (6th August) 1914 his allies and comrades to go to war against Austro-Hungary.

Petrovic and Karadjordjevic were family related - the oldest daughter of Nikola is princess Zorka, the wife of King Petar and the mother of the heir Aleksandar. That is precisely the reason why is Serbian prince addressing with "dear grandgather" to the Montenegro ruler, reports Dnevno.

We note that, this are the writings only the day before WWI and we are transmitting it in its entirety.

"We tried in everything to spare Serbian people from new sacrifices and burdens, but we failed, because Austro-Hungary asked to sacrifice our independence. God wanted it that was i guess to put Serbian people once again to stake their lives in order to defend whole Serbian peoples.

I am assured that my dear grandfather can appreciate even more how ridiculous the demand of Austro-Hungary it was, which was designed to inflict mortal wound to the future of Serbian people.

I was fulfilled with great joy when i found out, even though i never had doubts, that Montenegro will stand by Serbia to defend the Serbian people. 

The full mobilization of the Serbian army i have issued. 

Almighty God and the help of imperial and powerful Russia will be on the side of Serbian justice, and also the public thought of civilized Europe".

I send my greetings to my wise and dear granddad and the brave Montenegro army. Aleksandar

"The pride of Serbian tribe did now allow to further the retreat. Sweet are the sacrifices that are given for the justice and independence of the people.

In the God's name, and with the help of our centuries old protector, powerful Russia and the sympathies of the civilized peoples, our Serbian people will emerge victorious from this imposed temptation and will secure its great future.

My Montenegrins are prepared on the border, to die and to defend our independence. Live my dear grandson, for the joy of your dear father and mine!

Long live the brave Serbian army! Long live our dear Serbia! Your grandfather Nikola" 

Lets remind ourselves, Montenegro capitulated in 1916, and after that kind Nikola left the country, which was liberated just after the breach of Salonica front in the wave where Serbia was liberated as well (1918).
