Belgrade shoemaker, tailor and handbag maker Vasilije Vasa Milosavljevic (87) is one of a kind "God of Slavija" where he has his own shop for more than 40 years, and we visited the famous craftsman because of the notice that he offers 100.000 dinars (almost 1.000 euros) wage to someone who is willing to learn, work for him and succeed him in this rare profession.

The fact that no new student enlisted with School for fashion and design in the past five years is the proof how hard is to find a craftsmen these days, even an assistant, because no one new is interested in useful and practical knowledge.

- I am prepared to give that much wage, material and the entire workshop later on, if there was only someone to replace me a little bit. I can't find a good worker, for over 10 years. People are lazy, job is not attractive to young people, they say its dirty. That's a shame, because the basics of the craft can be handled within a year, and everything else is training - explains Mr Vasa, who has shoe making in his genes, for over 100 years.

In fact, he yearned this work from his great grand father in his birth town of Jagodina, his grandfather and his father, when he was only seven years old.

- First i was an apprentice, back then we did not have machines, you had to do everything by hand. Now its much easier! Everything goes easily, sole, stains, making the new shoes, patching... If i was born again, i would be a shoemaker again. All you need is to work what you love, to be meticulous, to pay attention to details and not to goof around.

- Customer must be pleased, because only then will they return to you. They love that shoe and they are pleased if you return it to life! That is why i am working form 7 in the morning to the 7 in the evening - explains Vasa and stresses that he has over 100 clients per day, which enables him to make few tens of thousands of dinars.

In his kingdom, everything is full with bags, belts, leather saddles and harnesses. Shoes prevail on crowded shelves, old and new. Guests keep coming, mostly neighbors and ambassadors. Customers are smiling with satisfaction, and Vasa - whose sons own a factory for making of shoes and they do not plan on working with repairs - waits for company while he repeats that "He would like to die on his job".
