Dalmatia was in flames the entire day yesterday, and fire got in Split in evening hours, and it was put under control around 23:00h, and due to the firestorm in Dalmatia, a meeting of the Crisis Staff will be held in the city on Tuesday morning, which will be chaired by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, and Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic will arrive in Split during the day.

A large fire broke out at Omis and, due to bad weather conditions, it spread to Split. The road was closed, and Canadairs could not take off due to the wind, reports Croatian media.

12 fires were burning in very difficult weather conditions, helped by strong winds in the area of Split-Dalmatia country, which are being extinguished by around 400 people with more than 100 fire trucks with the help of Canadair and air-tractors, announced today by Fire Department Commander of Split-Dalmatia County Drazen Glavin.

The fire caught first Split suburbs in the evening, the sky over the city was covered in thick smoke, gas station at Solin has caught fire, Split suburb cemetery Lovrinac, and at the end, the fire caught Split landfill Karepovac, so the city is threatened with ecological disaster as well beside fire, reports Index.hr.

- 4500 hectares of pine woods burned so far, low vegetation, grass and olive trees. We received more than 5.000 calls in the last 24 hours. The situation calmed a bit because the wind eased a bit - reports local media.

At Sitna Gornje, houses are being defended one by one, Canadairs are helping firefighters, and the similar situation is near Tugar, where fire has been pushed away from homes, but it can change directions because of wind.

- We dislocated all people and have risen all home forces as much as we could, so around 30 firefighters are putting out the fires on average, plus great fire at Sitno with more people - said Glavina.

Fires have taken one life so far in Dalmatia. In the village, Sitno Donje in Dalmatia, known for its thick pine forest, one death has been reported, but the identity has not been officially confirmed.

Even NASA's MODIS satellites Aqua and Terra recorded a fire near Sestanovac. Shots made yesterday from a distance of 705 kilometers, NASA has posted this on their site.

Besides Setanovac, fire is burning in Mercep, Vukusic and Ribicic, and great fire erupted on Brodarica near Sibenik.

On Tuesday, President of the Red Cross of the City of Split, Tomislav Gojo, confirmed to Hina that 200 beds, blankets, food, and water were accepted by Spaladium Arena in Lora, which will accommodate lightly injured firefighters as well as for the possible evacuation of the endangered population.

A joint session of the Civil Protection Staff of the city of Split and the Split-Dalmatia County was held on Monday evening, and it was stated that "air and water control takes place regularly, and citizens are asked to reduce the consumption of water and electricity, put down their blinds and not to use cars so they can free up the roads" in a press release issued after the session.

They calmed the public from the city and they said they expect the wind to calm during the night which will make the job of firefighters much easier, and this morning, mayor of Split Andro Krstulovic Opara said that the worst situation with fires in Split area is over and invited people of Split to stop self-organizing for defense from fire because there is no more need for it.
