Montenegro has declared a Russian diplomat as persona non grata and denied the actions of the honorary consul of the Russian Federation, the government said.

These Balkan states decided to expel the Russian diplomats and to support the West: Serbia is not among them!

- The Government of Montenegro has decided to proclaim a diplomatic representative accredited to the embassy of the Russian Federation as a persona non grata and to withdraw the consent of the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Montenegro. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Podgorica was informed about the measures with a deadline of seven days for the diplomatic representative to leave Montenegro - the statement said.

They point out that Montenegro also made this decision "in coordination with allies, in accordance with the measures taken by the EU and NATO member states", regarding the Russian actions and the nerve gas attack on the territory of the United Kingdom, which was publically condemned by the government as a mark of solidarity to the British partners.

Prime Minister Dusko Markovic hinted yesterday that the Government of Montenegro could expel Russian diplomats, saying that Montenegro is obliged to follow the foreign policy of the European Union (EU) and to express solidarity with the NATO members, reports Podgorica "Vijesti".

A total of 23 world states, of which 16 EU members, have decided to expel Russian diplomats due to the attack with a nerve gas on Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia in the territory of Great Britain.

The wave of expulsion came after British Prime Minister Theresa May said more than 130 people could be exposed to a nerve agent that poisoned the Skripals. When the EU leaders said that the evidence on Russian involvement is a solid base for further actions, the expelling of diplomats was announced in Ukraine, Canada, Albania, and Macedonia. They responded from Russia that they will answer every one of them individually.
