Top 5 beautiful destinations for a weekend getaway near Belgrade for May Day

When someone asks you, how will you spend May Day, it almost implies that you will say Kosutnjak, Ada Ciganlija, Avala or some other famous destination for a picnic near Belgrade.

No one denies the beauty of these places, but Belgrade still has undiscovered treasures which should be enjoyed. We present 5 locations which will have no crowds for May Day, and you can see the beauty for yourself.

PARADAJZ ISLAND

This is a real paradise in the wilderness. Alright, not a complete wilderness, because there is a road to the coast, there is a track, a wooden amphitheater, football court, beach volleyball, educational center, and many other objects...

Paradajz island is across the Ada Huja peninsula and it is around 8 km away from the center of Belgrade. The Danube on the east, Ada Huja on the west, Visnjicka Banja and Visnjica on the south, Krnjaca suburb on the north.

The city of Belgrade listed Paradajz island as a tourist-ecological destination of the city. There is a boat line organized to the island. 

AGA'S HILL

This is a place where "Vruc Vetar" was filmed, and it is interesting that the restaurant is there which was a place the elite used to gather. Josip Broz Tito, Sophia Loren, Neil Armstrong... 

It is not far away. It is 500 meters away from Grocka, 25 km from the center of Belgrade. There is a beautiful view over the vineyards, the Danube, slopes and hills, and even Smederevo fortress.

THE ISLAND OF PEACE

What is like Ada Ciganlija and it is beautiful (if not more beautiful) as Ada? The answer is the Island of Peace. That is a small island hidden between Ada Ciganlija and New Belgrade blocks, and there are mostly private houses. You can reach it from Sava bay with a boat which goes on every 30-60 minutes.

WHITE ROCK

Imagine enjoying on a beautiful sandy beach without much crowd and noise. Here's a sight from the White Rock.

This place is visited by people from Belgrade and Pancevo. It is considered the best sandy beach on the Danube. 

In order to reach the island, you need a boat, and you can go to a small marine in Visnjica or in Pancevo, and you can catch a boat to White Rock.

TRESNJA

Beautiful, more beautiful, the most beautiful! And so, we have reached Tresnja, the forest, and lakes not far from Avala, where you will see the untouched nature. It is an artificial lake which isn't very big, but the position of it is beautiful for everybody who doesn't like crowds and noise which usually comes with May Day.

You need a car for this field trip. Go towards Avala, but don't turn towards the top of the mountain, continue going straight, the road to Ralja. You will reach a crossroad. Turn left and go to Mala Ivanca. When you see a forest on the right, turn on the only road that enters the woods. It will take you to the lake Tresnja lake.
