The Washington Committee not only acknowledged the existence of the Montenegrin language but confirmed that Montenegrin was not a variant of the Serbian language, as it was recently recognized. So it has a linguistic recognition, Rakocevic said.

The code for the Montenegrin language will be the CNR, the name in English "Montenegrian", in the French "Montenegrin", and in the original "Crnogorski jezik" in Latin and Cyrillic.
