The Law on the Use of Languages in Macedonia was finally adopted on Wednesday in the Sobranie (Assembly) by the decision of the Macedonian-Albanian parliamentary majority, not carrying on the demands of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE to discuss 35,569 submitted amendments.

The effect of the crisis of the political establishment in Europe on the affinity of the voters

Without prior review and consideration of the opposition's amendments, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi urged MPs to vote. It takes 64 members of the ruling majority to vote "Yes" to make the law legal (unitary parliament has 120 representatives) - social democrats (SDSM) leader and the prime minister Zoran Zaev and the Albanian Democratic Union Integration (DUI) of Ali Ahmeti.

After more than two months of political "trade" and pressure, opponents of this act, the mass protests of patriotic supporters of the Macedonian opposition, Xhaferi declared that the Law on Use of Languages was adopted on Wednesday. This marked the start of the official use of the Albanian language as the second official language in the country.

Previously, parliamentary security managed to prevent a serious incident at the last moment- a physical conflict between Xhaferi and MP of VMRO-DPMNE, former leader of that party and Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

The said Law on the use of languages in the first ballot was adopted in mid-January this year, but the head of the state, Djordje Ivanov, refused to sign a decree of announcing a controversial act and it was returned to the "correctional" parliamentary procedure and voting.

The final adoption of the Law on the Use of Languages in Macedonia fulfilled one of the crucial conditions of Albanian parties to support and enter the coalition government of Prime Minister Zaev.
